Why We Love Creating Gluten-Free & Vegan Treats

There is a unique kind of magic that happens in a bakery kitchen. The smell of warm vanilla, the perfect swirl of frosting, and the anticipation of that very first bite. But for a long time, traditional baking had a gatekeeper: ingredients like gluten, dairy, and eggs. If you had an allergy, a dietary restriction, or chose a plant-based lifestyle, walking into a bakery often meant walking away empty-handed.


At Dee’s Little Sweets, we set out to change that story. Our kitchen is entirely 100% gluten-free and vegan because we believe that dessert shouldn't just taste good—it should bring people together, without exceptions.


Here is a look behind the scenes at why we pour our hearts into inclusive baking every single day.


1. Dessert Should Mean Celebration, Not Complication

Food is how we celebrate milestones, comfort each other, and show love. When someone has to sit out during dessert time because of an allergy or lifestyle choice, a little bit of that shared joy is lost.

We love baking gluten-free and vegan treats because it removes the stress from the table. When you bring home a box of cupcakes, cake pucks, or cake truffles from our kitchen, you don’t have to worry about cross-contamination or checking labels. You just get to sit back, share, and enjoy the moment with the people you love.


2. The Creative Challenge of Delicious Consistency

Let’s be honest: gluten-free and vegan baking used to get a bad reputation for being dry, crumbly, or lacking flavor. We took that as a personal challenge!!


One of the things we love most about what we do is proving that you don't need traditional ingredients to create an incredible dessert. Perfecting our recipes—achieving that light, fluffy cupcake crumb or the rich, decadent texture of our cake pucks—is incredibly rewarding. We hold our treats to a high standard, using authentic techniques and presentation so that they look and taste just as spectacular as any traditional baked good. When a customer tells us they can’t even tell it’s gluten-free and vegan, that is the ultimate victory!!


3. Seeing the Joy at our Table / Tent

Nothing compares to the look on a child’s face—or an adult’s!!—when they realize they can order anything on the menu safely. We get to witness this joy firsthand when we travel to our local community markets. Whether we are handing out free samples of a favorite flavor or packing up a customized mini sampler, seeing people get excited about dessert again is the fuel that keeps our ovens running. It turns baking from a job into a true passion project.

Baking these treats is our way of giving back to the community that supports us. We are incredibly proud to hand-craft every single batch right here, and we know that we couldn't do it without the amazing local network around us.

Just like we pour our hearts into our sweets, independent artisans and small business vendors all over our region pour themselves into their crafts. That is why, beyond the kitchen, we are so passionate about supporting the local ecosystem. When you choose to shop small and shop local, you are keeping independent dreams alive—and making the community a whole lot sweeter in the process!
